What Are Mods?

Basic definition

"Mods are modifications to the game to make things more entertaining or convenient. The mods I recommend do not change the game, they just make traversing the world and building things much easier."  - MCPro542

"Minecraft “mods” (short for “modifications”) are changes or modifications made to the game to alter the original gameplay. These can be as simple as updating the lighting and colors or as complex as introducing completely new and functional elements to the game—like new characters or new collectible items." -CodaKid

How To Install OUR Recommended Modpack

An explanation from Scar:

  1. Hello! BetaKale has put together a modpack of recommended mods for you to play with! This is a guide on how to install the program required to run the modpack (It's simple. As long as you know your Microsoft login, you can do this in under 10 minutes).
  2. Install Modrinth from their website. While it's installing, use their website to make an account. It's free!
  3. Run the Modrinth installer. To do this, either click the little download button at the top of your browser and select the installer or, if you can't find that, open your File Explorer (The manila folder that is probably in your taskbar), click "Downloads" on the left and then double click the installer.
  4. The installer will talk you through your process, there's not anything in the way of settings that you need to change.
  5. Once the program is installed, open it and log in with both your Modrinth account and your Minecraft/Microsoft account.
  6. Now, to play with our mods, click the button over to the right which will take you to the Discord embed that BetaKale posted. Click download on the pack to save it to your computer.
  7. Now, go back to Modrinth and on the left side, there is a + button that, when you hover over it, it tells you that it will Create a New Instance. Select this.
  8. Once the menu opens, click "From File" at the top,  then "Import From File" and find the modpack file you just downloaded in your Downloads folder.
  9. Wait for it to finish downloading and installing via the progress bar at the top.
  10. When it's done, a cube icon will appear on the left. Clicking this will take you to the pack menu, from where you can add mods that you enjoy (If you click "+ Install Content" it will let you add mods that are compatible with the modpack, which is awesome), disable ones in the pack you don't like (With the toggle. Make sure you don't outright delete any before testing the game without them enabled, if you delete something that another mod is dependent on, the game won't start and you'll have to re-add it which is more inconvenient than simply disabling it)
  11. On the top right of the screen, there is a "Play" button. Click it lol. Make sure to customise your mod settings from the main menu with the "Mods" button to make the game the way you want it! Let us know if you need help or have any questions!

Gentlemens' SMP 1.0.0 Modpack

This button will take you to the Discord message containing the modpack in our Discord.

How To Install Mods With Fabric

An explanation from MCPro542 and Scar:

  1. There are many ways to install mods, the process differs for mac users. For windows, just run the file to the right, and it will install Fabric. Fabric is a mod loader and won't work with all mods. Only mods that are designed to be used with Fabric can be used. All of the mods we are installing today are supported by Fabric.
  2. After you have run the installer, open your Minecraft session to the main screen where you select the version of Minecraft you are going to play. It should already have selected fabric [Most recent version] for you.
  3. Run the game, get to the main menu and then close the game. Doing this tells your computer that you want to play with mods and tells it to create the right folders and files for you.
  4. Go to the .minecraft folder by opening a file window and typing in %appdata% in the search bar.
  5. You should see the .minecraft folder, click on it, and find the mods folder.
  6.  If it is not in the .minecraft folder, make a new file called "mods" with no caps
  7. This folder is where you will put all of your mods once they are downloaded. To download these, install them with the links below and make sure to select "Keep" when it asks you if you trust them. We do, we have been using these for a while, it does not mean the file is dangerous, it means that people could use the file type to hurt your computer, but we aren't using it in a way that it could do that.
  8. MANY MODS REQUIRE A MOD CALLED FABRICAPI TO HELP RUN THEM. If the mod section says to install this, do it, but only do it once for the mod folder. (I.e. if you want VoxelMap and Optifine, both need it, but you only need one.)

Fabric downloader:

This button will take you to the downloader for Fabric. When it's installed, open the installer and select the version that the server is on, then hit install.
